Dr. Patrick Regoniel, Associate Professor of Palawan State University as official contestant from MIMAROPA Health Research and Development Consortium (MHRDC) bags 3rd Prize for the Oral Research Competition under the Professional Category in the 8th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week Celebration last August 14, 2014 at Radisson Blu Hotel, Cebu City, Philippines.

                A total of 31 entries were submitted from all over the country for a double-blind review by experts in the field of health but only six (6) research papers were chosen to compete in the said competition. Out of the six researches, only three papers were awarded and Regoniel tops it as being the 3rd Prize winner with his winning research entry entitled “Climate Hazard Effects on Socio-Environmental Health and Adaptation Strategies in Two Coastal Communities in Palawan Island.”

Furthermore, Regoniel received Php 15,000.00, a certificate of recognition and a glass trophy for winning as 3rd Placer. Meanwhile, still on the said competition, Dr. Lotis Escobin-Mopera of University of the Philippines-Los Banos with her research entitled “Prebiotic Potential of Ubi Flour (Dioscorea Alata L.)” was announced as 2nd Prize Winner with a cash prize of Php 20,000.00 and finally the research entitled “Biomechanical Properties of an Improvised Monoplanar External Fixator for Transverse Metacarpal Shaft Fractures AO/OTA 77-A2.3” of Dr. Juan Agustin D. Coruna IV of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital claims his spot as being the 1st Prize Winner with a cash prize of Php 25,000.00 of the Oral Research Competition under the Professional Category.

 

Although MHRDC is the youngest among the consortium, Regoniel boosts the pride of the consortium by not allowing juvenile years to interfere in the quality of researches MIMAROPA Region is doing to be a catalyst for the development for the coming years.

The Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), is in search for Best Mentor in Health Research for the year 2015.

The Best Mentor in Health Research Award recognizes a mentor's excellence in mentorship enabling passion among researchers to conduct health research with enhanced relevance and productivity to the field. It also aims to recognize mentors who have built capacities of health researchers which ame significant advances in the Philippine National Health Research Thrust as identified in the National Unified Health Research Agenda.

The search is open to all Filipino citizen actively involved in mentoring researchers/students or colleagues for at least five years.  Past winners can no longer be nominated. All nominations should be made by heads of institutions, immediate supervisor/s, colleague/s, trainee/s, or student/advisee. Self-nomination is not allowed.

Winners from each cluster (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and NCR) will receive a cash prize of PHP 100,000 plus a plaque of recognition while the national winner will be receiving a PHP 200,000 cash prize plus a trophy.

Nominations should reach the consortium not later than January 7, 2015. 


Qualified nominees will be reviewed & will be short-listed by the consortium. 

 


Deadline of submission of short-listed nominees to PCHRD is on January 14, 2015.
